Wenger has secret record
By DAVID BARNES (thesun.co.uk)
ARSENE WENGER boasts a secret he has yet to share with his newly-crowned Premiership champions. SunSport can reveal the Arsenal boss has already gone through an entire season unbeaten . . . as a PLAYER.
Wenger’s golden Gunners have not lost in 34 league games this season — and their manager wants to preserve that proud record in their last four matches. But the Frenchman is no stranger to such a run. He played for the Strasbourg second team that finished the 1979-80 French Third Division campaign undefeated after 32 matches.
Wenger clinched his third Arsenal title on Sunday. And one of the first people to congratulate him was his mentor and lifelong friend Max Hild, from his native Alsace. Hild discovered Wenger playing as a skinny, shaggy-haired 18-year-old for his village side Duttlenheim, out in the sticks.
Hild, once a big wheel with Strasbourg, said: “Of course Arsenal will not lose this season. “It will remind Arsene of the time he did exactly the same thing towards the end of his own playing career.
“Such was the influence he had on a team, even then, that I played him at around 30 in a side of 18 and 19-year-old apprentices for Strasbourg reserves.
“Arsene played at the back as a libero and they went all 32 games of the season without losing a single one.”
Hild reckons Wenger, 54, was talented enough to have forged a top-class professional career as an attacking midfielder. He said: “Arsene has achieved so much in English football that few people know the Germans were his first inspiration.
“As a young man he was hungry for knowledge and Germany was at the game’s cutting edge, with players like Franz Beckenbauer and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.
“We went to Munich, Stuttgart and Frankfurt and analysed the games all the way back home.
“I found Arsene playing at 18 — but that was too late. If he had been detected earlier he could have played in the French First Division, just like Thierry Henry and Patrick Vieira did.
“He was a bit like Vieira — very technical, a good tackler and passer and even better with his head when scoring goals.
“Arsene did turn down offers to turn pro. His parents were keen on him studying at university — and so was Arsene. He played for France at student level.”
Wenger and elder brother Guy were raised in their parents’ bar-restaurant A La Croix d’Or, which served as the HQ for the village soccer team. Guy said: “I used to play for the team with Arsene. Now I’m a director there. “We won 2-1 on Sunday while Arsene was winning the Premiership title. What a great day.”
Guy runs the car-parts business the Wenger family bought after giving up the bar-restaurant. And at one point it seemed Arsene’s own future might lie in gears and gaskets.
While Arsenal stars today become millionaires in their 20s, Wenger had a degree in economic science and clubs covered his expenses.
Hild added: “I had gone to Duttlenheim as the coach of Mutzig, a nearby town. I wanted to see how my own youngsters were shaping up. “But Arsene caught my eye and I asked him to join us. It was stepping up about five divisions into national football.
“That’s an exciting thing for an 18-year-old but Arsene never turned a hair. Even then he showed no exterior signs of what he was feeling inside.
“He went with me, too, to play for Vauban — a suburb of Strasbourg — and finally to Strasbourg themselves, where he had a few league games for their championship-winning side and even played a couple of matches in Europe.
“Now everyone knows he dreams of winning the Champions League with Arsenal. I really believe he’ll do it.”

ASHBURTON GROVE
|
|
CHAMPIONS Arsenal will be pretty happy at their new ground — with their very own beauty parlour.
Masseurs and a barber will be on hand for the pampered players.
Stars including Robert Pires and Ray Parlour will also have use of foot spas and top-of-the-range grooming products.
The move comes after they were asked for ideas on what features they would like at the Ashburton Grove ground in North London.
And nearly all requested a special room in which they could spruce themselves up after matches before going out — rather than having to go home to get ready.
An insider at current ground Highbury told The Sun: “It will be a very luxurious room next to the changing rooms where players can get treatment before heading away from the ground.
“Things like facials, foot spas, aftershaves and even a barber are all proposed.
“And they’ll have their own lockers where they can store freshly-pressed suits.”
Unbeaten Arsenal won this year’s Premiership title last Sunday by drawing with rivals Tottenham.
Their new £325million stadium is due to open in 2006.

Arsenal won it.. yeah.. THE ENGLISH PREMIERSHIP LEAGUE title are gunners....!! Despite a draw at WHITE HART LANE, they done it with unbeaten streak to won the crown at the their bitter enemy's home.. heh.. the job done.. Dis is wut i'm talking about.. LET FOOTBALL DO THE TALKING.. i dun comment a lot, but juz let the football itself show us who's da best..!! If not in the world, in ENGLAND at least..
Highbury boss Arsene Wenger - the first Arsenal manager to win three league titles, said his job was to focus his players' attention on maintaining their unbeaten record for the entire season - a feat never achieved in the modern English game. I hope they can make it..
THIERRY HENRY capped his title celebrations by claiming the PFA Player of the Year award in London last night for the second successive year. HE also became the first man to retain the PFA Player of the Year Award. Arsenal players dominated the PFA’s Premiership Team of the Year, with six nominations.
DIVISIONAL TEAMS.- PREMIERSHIP: Howard (Man Utd), Lauren (Arsenal), Campbell (Arsenal), Terry (Chelsea), Cole (Arsenal), Gerrard (Liverpool), Lampard (Chelsea), Pires (Arsenal), Vieira (Arsenal), Henry (Arsenal), Van Nistelrooy (Man Utd).
One of fan's poster: THAT WHY SOL LEAVE THE LANE..!!

Arsenal stat attack
With another devastating display of attacking football, Arsenal reclaimed the Premiership title at Tottenham's White Hart Lane on Sunday - a full three weeks before the end of the season.
Despite the best efforts of super-rich Chelsea and battle-tough Manchester United, the Gunners have dominated the top flight as few clubs have before them.
Here - in statistical terms - is how they have done it.
POINTS MAKE PRIZES
Arsenal have 82 points - and could get a maximum of 94
If Arsenal pick up at least 10 points from their remaining four fixtures, they will pass Manchester United's record Premiership points tally of 91 for a 38-game season in 1999/2000.
A total of 11 points or more will give them the overall top-flight points record, beating the 92 amassed by the Red Devils in a 42-game campaign in 1993/94.
And, if the Gunners stay unbeaten until the end, they will become the first team to finish a top-flight English season without a loss since Preston in 1888/89.
GOAL RUSH
Arsenal have scored 69 goals, eight more than nearest rivals, Chelsea and Manchester United.
This breaks down into a league-leading 38 goals at Highbury and 31 goals on their travels (one less than Chelsea) at an overall average of 2.03 goals per league game.
OLD-SCHOOL DEFENDING
Manager Arsene Wenger has restored the defensive stoicism that characterised Arsenal sides of the past.
Having shipped only 24 goals, they are likely to have the best defensive record since their 1998/99 side (which conceded 17) and have leaked five fewer goals than Chelsea.
Against all league opposition they have allowed only one goal per 127.5 minutes.
GOAL DIFFERENCE DOES NOT LIE
Arsenal have scored 45 goals more than they have conceded, making them an average of 1.32 goals better than their league opposition.
Manchester United were only 1.05 goals better than their rivals when they won the league by five points last year.
BIG IS NOT BEST
Contrary to west London opinion, smaller is better when it comes to first-team squads.
Arsene Wenger has given at least 25 Premiership starts to eight players, five more than Claudio Ranieri has at Chelsea.
THE HENRY FACTOR
Thierry Henry has been involved in 39 goals (29 scored and 10 assists), which represents 56.5% of Arsenal's total of 69.
Incredibly, this still leaves the Frenchman behind the blistering pace he set last season, when he was involved in 51 of his side's 85 goals, or 60%.
MIDFIELD MAESTRO
Robert Pires has added 14 goals from midfield, five more than his nearest rivals in the position - Paul Scholes (Manchester United) and Luis Boa Morte (Fulham).

Makelele an actor..?
|
|
|
CLAUDE MAKELELE was guilty of play-acting to con ref Urs Meier into sending off Andreas Zikos. After giving Zikos a playful slap, Makelele took a late dive when the Monaco star tapped his head.
I dun think he should do that to get sumthin (get innocent ppl being sent off) at Monaco.. He already got 10 other talented person with him in da field to get at least a draw at away game.. But when he did sumthin embarassing like that, i juz cant wait to be so furious with him. With the talent he got himself plus his teammates talent, he should win one fair football match, but with da attitude like that, he can be juz as bad as Keown, Lauren, Lehmann in early match of arsenal's season. Dats suxx man..
Tak psl2 mamat Zikos tu kena buang pdg sbb mende kecik tu. Even diorg menang, tp still Zikos tu kena suspended nyer. Mesti die frust giler.. Dah la bukan selalu dpt main semi Champs League. Paling kurg 3 game banned, kalu kad merah tu tak ditarik blk la.. Kalu banned 3 game, tak dpt la main final.. erm.. isk isk.. kalah kt quarter pun da sedey giler.. inikan pula kalu tak dpt bantu team maser final, pastu kalah lak tu.. haru.. haru..
p/s: Sumer luahan di atas disebabkan rasa tak puas ati kalah ngan chelsea maser quarter-final, so aku sokong MONACO for this tie.
